Pacific and Atlantic Multidecadal Variability Relations with the Choco and Caribbean Low-Level Jets during the 1900–2015 Period

This study analyzes the variability of Choco jet (CJ) and Caribbean low-level (CLLJ) with consideration simultaneous Pacific interdecadal oscillation (PDO) Atlantic multidecadal (AMO) low-frequency mean states their effects on atmospheric circulation rainfall in northwestern South America Central for 1900–2015 period, during seasons highest intensities CJ (September–November (SON)) CLLJ (June–August). Variations sea surface temperature (SST) anomaly positioning eastern Pacific, tropical North (TNA)/Caribbean Sea different restrict anomalous circulation, and, consequently, intensity CLLJ. During warm AMO (WAMO)/cold PDO (CPDO), SST gradient from into TNA, accompanied by a cyclonic near east coast Americas, intensifies west–east region, strengthening weakening SON such that increases over Colombia, adjacent oceans. cold (CAMO)/warm (WPDO) phase, relative east/west occurs consistent western establishing an southwest–northwestward basin, forming well-configured CJ, increasing precipitation its For CLLJ, CAMO phases, anticyclonic circulations extended most TNA favor intensification 30° W to Sea.
